Werner Schon

Werner Carl Schon, 83, passed away on May 14th, 2017 with his wife Carol by his side.  Werner was born on June 13, 1933 as has been resident of Mountainside NJ for over 60 years. 

Werner was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark NJ and raised in Union NJ.  He attended Upsala College and received a degree in Accounting.  Werner spent his career as President and Owner of Astro Molding Inc. and a Partner in J. Schon Tool and Machine Company.  He not only took pride in his business but truly relished the relationships he made during his professional career. 

Werner cared deeply for his community and served as a Mountainside Councilman for 25 years, serving as Council President, Fire Commissioner, Chairman of Public Works and Liaison for the Board of Health.   He was a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, coached little league baseball, and was a member of the Mountainside Music Association. 

He loved life and enjoyed time at his Jersey Shore Home surrounded by family and friends.  He was also a golfing member at Echo Lake Country and enjoyed singing, painting, fishing and sailing. 

Werner is survived by his wife of 60 years Carol (Wrtalik) Schon and five children Thomas and his partner Pascal, Linda Schon Bullock and her husband John, Kathi Schon Maslo and her husband Doug, Douglas and his wife Laura, and John E. Schon.  He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Jordan, Kristina, Douglas, Victoria, Gabriella, Harrison and Jeremy.  He is also survived by his brother John Otto Schon.

The viewing will be at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home 582 Springfield Ave, Westfield NJ on Thursday May 18th from 2pm to 8pm.  The Mass of Christian burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes 300 Central Ave, Mountainside NJ at 10am on Friday May 19th.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield NJ.
