WWII Veteran, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather with a generous heart and wicked sense of humor. Nick, known as “Papou” or “Mr. G” to many was born on April 1, 1925 in Brooklyn. He lived in Irvington, NJ until 1979 when he became a longtime Fanwood resident. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS LST 359. Nick was Irvington’s Supt of Motorized equipment until he retired in 1993, spending his retirement years taking care of his family, which was one of his most immense joys in life.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Sophia, his brothers Anast and Louis, and his beloved daughter Kristie Hall.
Nick was a dedicated husband to his wife of 67 years, Helen Vasil Geotakes and devoted “Daddy” to his daughters Marilyn Maroulakos (Harry) and Andria Kiel (Henry). He was a loving grandfather to Nicole Goodwin (Dan); Marie Reffler (Rick); Christopher Maroulakos; Nicholas, Billy and Tommy Hall; Ryan, Tim and Alyssa Kiel; and great grandfather to James and Nate Goodwin, and Nicholas, Matthew, and Alexa Reffler.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Westfield or Ss. Nicholas, Constantine, and Helen, in Roseland.
Viewing will be Monday evening between 4:00-8:00 pm at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave, Westfield. Funeral service to take place at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Tuesday, 11:00am.
