Carmelo Dominic Scariati passed on October 27, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family. Carmelo was born in Manhattan on March 1, 1920 to Peter and Marie Rose Scariati. Following the death of his parents, he lived in Sorrento, Italy for 10 years with his grandfather, and then until age 19, was a resident of St. Agnes Orphanage in Sparkill, NY. After leaving the orphanage, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Carmelo then worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and for 35 years with the Mahoney-Troast Construction Company.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose (Castronovo) Scariati, son, Carl and his wife Marjorie, daughter, Rosemarie Karparis, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 58 McLean Blvd., Paterson, NJ on November 11, 2016 at 11:00am. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
