Brigid Bergin, 82, of Roselle Park died Thursday at home.
The viewing is Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral is on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home with a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption, Roselle Park. Internment is at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
Born in Dooey, Downings, County Donegal, Ireland, Mrs. Bergin came to the U.S., settling in Elizabeth for 39 years before moving to Roselle Park 20 years ago.
She worked at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Elizabeth as well as being a homemaker.
Mrs. Bergin was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Division No. 4 of Elizabeth.
She was an avid enthusiast of Irish music and culture, and she spoke her native Irish fluently.
She was the wife of her late husband, Martin Bergin, who passed away in 2007. They were married 48 years. Surviving are her daughters, Colleen Coleman and her husband, Brian, of Cranford, Deirdre Bergin of Roselle Park, and Eithne Bergin-Thorne and her husband, Jeffrey, of Garden City, N.Y.; a son, Kieran Bergin of Cranford; grandchildren Brigid Coleman, Jimmy Coleman, Joseph Thorne, and Kevin Thorne; sister, Sophia Sugrue, and brother, Patrick McFadden; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Hugh and Mary McFadden; sister, Mary Murphy, and brothers, Manus, Andrew, John, and Hugh McFadden.
