Zoila Baquerizo Obituary

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart we announce the passing of our loving and devoted Mom, Zoila L. Baquerizo, 79, on Thursday, June 18, 2020. After many months of medical complications and various ailments, she passed comfortably at home in Linden. The loss of our loving abuela, mother, sister, and friend to many, has left a void in all of us.

She was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on July 6,1940 attending the University of Guayaquil to study Commercial Copywriting and Office Management. As a young girl she was part of the marching band, took dance classes and enjoyed swimming. Her love of travel, which she often did with her father throughout Ecuador and neighboring countries, drove her to venture out to New York City shortly after she began her career as an office administrator at Facultad de Medicina at the University of Guayaquil. In Elizabeth she settled with her two children and became a parish member of St.Mary’s Assumption where she gave over 35 years of service as a member of the community. As a Eucharistic Minister she dedicated her time to visiting the ill or those who could not attend mass. She retired from Wakefern Food Corp after over 20 years and spent most of her free time volunteering, traveling and grandma duties.

And travel she did. She visited many places including a long time wish to visit the Holy Land. Along with Israel her travels took her to Vatican City, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, Istanbul, Greece, Puerto Rico, and many other places. Visiting her family in Ecuador was her favorite.

Zoila was preceded in death by her father, Jose Clemente Baquerizo Bohorquez, her mother, Luz America Luzuriaga and her brother Jose Alfredo Baquerizo Luzuriaga. She is survived by her brothers José Clemente Baquerizo Luzuriaga and Enrique Vincente Clemente Baquerzio Luzuriaga, her son Enrique Baquerizo, his wife Belinda Baquerizo, her daughter, Kathy Cevallos, her grandchildren, Julius, Jagger, Jolie, her cousins her nephews and her niece.
