William (Bill) E Madden Jr, a husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, went to Heaven on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.
Born on June 23, 1926 in Baltimore, Md. to William E Madden and Grace Manning, he was the second of their eleven children. He was predeceased by two sisters Grace (older) and Anne, as well as three brothers Mike, Jimmy, and Donald. He is survived by one sister, Cas, and four brothers, Johnny, Pat, Joe and Ray (the baby).
Bill served in WWII in the US Navy aboard the USS Terry as a Signalman. He watched the official Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay.
Family and friends were a priority for Bill throughout his life.
He married his sweetheart, Madeline Deegan, in 1952, and the couple settled in West Palm Beach, Fl. where their two children Marlene and Bill were born. He was a founding member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and helped to build the school and church. He fondly remembered the purchase of the school bus using S&H Green Stamps.
After Madeline’s passing, Bill married Julie Demarco from Linden, NJ. They built a home in Springfield, NJ where he was a loved and respected parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was an usher and helped serve at Mass through 2019. He was often teased as being the world’s oldest altar boy.
He was an active participant in the Mountainside VFW, and has served as Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade.
Bill is survived by his daughters Audrey and Marlene, his son Bill, his grandchildren Eddie, Carl, Lisa, Sheila, Eric and 5 great- grandchildren Dan, Madden, Sloane, Juliette, and Melanie.
The loss we all feel is impossible to put into words. Bill was kind, gentlemanly, uncomplaining and entirely devoted to his family. His remarkable fortitude and quiet, humble example left a profound influence on all of us. Kindly remember him and our entire family in your prayers.
