William J Schmid

William “Bill” Schmid passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on January 21, 2026.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris Schmid, and his brother, John Schmid. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jane Petteruti (Richard) and Bette Demsey (Rick); his daughters, Lisa Byrne (Mike) and Carolyn Baumann (Mike); and his cherished grandchildren, Jackson Byrne, Madelyn Byrne, Brian Byrne, Mikey Baumann, and Jake Baumann

Trained as a carpenter in his earlier years, Bill always carried an appreciation for craftsmanship. He valued the simple pleasures of life, filling his days with reading, listening to music, fishing, and taking walks.

During the later years of his life, Bill resided in the senior housing apartments of Scotch Plains, where he truly enjoyed his time. He valued the sense of community there, spending his days socializing with neighbors, attending events, and taking peaceful walks along the nature trail. He could often be found sitting by his large living room window, contentedly watching the birds come and go among the trees.

Above all else, Bill loved his family and never missed a birthday, holiday, or family gathering, and his steady presence and devotion were felt by all who knew him.

Private services will be held at Higgins and Bonner in Westfield.

William Schmid will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
