William Kiamie, 98, a Scotch Plains, NJ resident since 1970, died comfortably in his home on January 29, 2023.
William was born June 22, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, but spent his formative years living in Cranford, NJ. The son of Lebanese immigrants, Aziz and Sadie Kiamie, William was the third oldest of six children.
The Great Depression struck the family hard. When his father lost his business and later became ill, William and his older siblings were forced to work to help put food on the table for the family. He thus helped raise his younger siblings, Richard, Arthur, and Robert.
When America entered WWII, William, like many of his generation, enlisted in the Army as a teenager. He served in the 93rd Mortar Battalion, which eventually became part of General Patton's army in Europe.
When the war ended, William returned and studied accounting at New York University, where he graduated in 1949. After working several odd jobs, his eldest brother, Charlie, got him a job at Western Electric in 1951. Western Electric was owned by AT&T, which is where William worked as an accountant/auditor for the rest of his professional life (he retired in 1987).
On November 23, 1963, the day after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, William married Violet S. Keamy of Lawrence, MA. They eventually had two children and settled in Scotch Plains, NJ in 1970.
William is survived by his daughter; Kimberly A. Kiamie and her husband Ross Marshall; their son Michael (William's only grandchild); and his son William J. Kiamie. He will be buried after a service at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, NJ on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM..
