Virginia A. Griffith

On October 2nd, 2023 Virginia Griffith peacefully passed away surrounded by her family.

Virginia, Ginny, as her family and friends called her was born on December 2nd, 1942 to John and Marie Sullivan.

Ginny was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended Holy Rosary Grammar School and Saint Patrick’s High School. After being employed by the City of Elizabeth she transferred to the Board of Education and retired after 25 years of service.

She married the love of her life Richard in 1966 and together they shared a beautiful marriage of 57 years.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents John and Marie Sullivan, sister, Kathleen Sullivan (Remias) and brother Richard Sullivan.

She is survived by her husband Richard (Cranford), son Joseph Griffith (wife Nancy Griffith) of Basking Ridge, daughter Eileen Michie (husband John Michie) of Cranford, sister Eileen Butfiloski (husband Brian) of Barnegat, and brother-in-law, John Remias of Forked River as well as her grandchildren, Reilly, Alexa, Ryan, Caroline, Colin.

Ginny will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness. Her nurturing spirit and strength will always be remembered.

There will be a wake on Thursday, October 5th from 4-8 at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave. Westfield with a funeral mass on Friday, October 6th, Saint Genevieve’s RC Church, 200 Monmouth Rd, Elizabeth at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations came be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or The American Heart Association.
