Tom Cisternino
October 28, 1932 – February 5, 2024
Tom Cisternino, 91, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on February 5, 2024.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late James and Maria Cisternino. He served as an Army Paratrooper during the Korean War. and a New York City Police Officer for 35 years, retiring as a Detective. Brooklyn was his life-long home, always comfortable in the role of mayor of the block wherever he went.
This lifelong selfless devotion to family, friends, and community led him to a decades-long commitment to the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #168. He rose to the position of Governor, cherishing the Gold Blazer recognition of exemplary service. He was awarded the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest honor bestowed.
He joins his devoted partner of 55 years Miranda (Randy) Diedrich, and siblings, Margaret Cisternino, Christine Wallace, Marian (Dom) Argenziano, Joe (AnnMarie), and Vito (Donalda) in heaven.
Tom is survived by three generations of his nearest and dearest who lovingly call him Uncle Tommy and Pops.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at St. Helen's RC Church, 1600 Raritan Rd., Westfield, NJ. Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
