Sister Marian Hogan Obituary

Sister Marian Hogan, O.S.B., of the Benedictine Sister of Elizabeth, entered into eternal life on December 4, 2024. Born in Jersey City, she entered the Benedictine Sister on July 11, 1955 and made her Monastic Profession on May 1, 1957. 

 

Sr. Marian was an educator and served as a teacher at the following schools: Blessed Sacrament, Elizabeth; St James, Springfield; St Joseph, Maplewood; Our Lady of Notre Dame, Cedar Knolls; St Henrys, Bayonneand St Michaels, Cranford.  She also served as a principal at St. Genevieve in Elizabeth.  Most notably, and dearest to her heart, was her work as a principal, and later an aide, for the Mt Carmel Guild Special Education Programs of the Newark Archdiocese. 

 

Sr. Marian was predeceased by her parents, James & Florence; grandmother Anna Patron; and brother, James.  Surviving is her sister in law, Muffy McDowell; nephew, Theodore Hogan; and niece, Jennifer Koehn.

 

Visitation will be held at the St Walburga Monastery, 851 North Broad St, Elizabeth, NJ 07208 on Monday, December 9, 2024from 6:30pm – 8pm followed by night prayers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10, 2024at 10am at the monastery with interment to follow at St Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.  

In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Walburga Monastery Infirmary Fund would be deeply appreciated.
