Sharon Costello

August 2, 1947 ~ July 12, 2023 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Sharon Ann Costello passed away peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Sharon was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on August 2,1947, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Gaughan) Costello. She was a  devoted sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and loving friend to countless people. Sharon was predeceased by her brothers Jack and Terry, and her sisters, Bette and Maureen. She is survived by her brothers,Tommy and Bob, with his wife, Eloise. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews, too numerous to name here.

Sharon loved and cared deeply for her family and friends. She was always there to lend a helping hand. Everyone knew that they could count on Sharon in time of need. She loved going to family events and organized many of them. Sharon also enjoyed traveling and bringing home souvenirs from her many trips in the United States and abroad. She was a big sports fan, especially the NBA and Tennis.

Sharon grew up in Roselle, NJ, attended St. Joseph the Carpenter School and graduated from Holy Family Academy in Bayonne, NJ in 1965. She attended Kean College, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1986.

Sharon worked for New Brunswick Scientific Company, Inc. in Edison, NJ, a world-leading company that designs, manufactures and markets equipment used in the biotechnology industry. Sharon’s 40-year tenure with NBS began as a Production Planner. Her leadership style and interest in process improvements ultimately resulted in her full responsibility as Inventory Control Manager. She was in charge of the Planning, Production Control, Stockroom and Shipping & Receiving functions. She was well respected and admired by the company's principals and employees alike. Sharon even went beyond her usual job description and volunteered to organize recurring social events when they needed her expertise.

Sharon lived in the Cranford Senior Housing Building where she was President of the Cranford Senior Housing Tenants Association for multiple years. She was responsible for programming and all organizational aspects of the building. Sharon was the ultimate event/party planner, taking charge of all the social events, giving love and fun to  everyone around her. Always going above and beyond, if anyone needed a ride to doctor’s appointments or had other needs, Sharon often provided the transportation. She was an integral part of the fabric at her residence. Sharon was loved by all the tenants, many of whom became her lifelong friends. This amazing lady will be greatly missed.

Sharon’s love of music was evident as she was a member of the “Chansonettes”, a group of women who enjoy singing. As part of this wonderful organization, Sharon volunteered her time to give concerts at Senior Homes and Nursing Homes. Sharon, along with her “Chansonette” friends, sang Christmas songs and selections from the Great American Songbook. Sharon enjoyed these concerts, knowing that she was giving joy, happiness, and good cheer to all the people she encountered.

Sharon’s religious faith sustained her throughout her life. One of the most  joyous events in her life was her pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Israel. Sharon was a life-long devoted parishioner at St. Joseph the Carpenter Roman Catholic Church in Roselle, NJ. She was an active member of the parish and was in the choir for several years.

Sharon Ann Costello was an energetic, fun-loving and beautiful woman with great devotion and love for her family and many friends. Sharon will remain forever in our hearts and she will be greatly missed by all.

The family suggests sending memorial contributions to St. Joseph the Carpenter Roman Catholic Church, Parish Office, 157 East Fourth St., Roselle, NJ. Memorials may also be made in Sharon’s name to the charity of your choice.
