On January 5th, Ronald “Ron” Melusky passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. True to his character, Ron chose his own way to say goodbye, waiting for the Chicago Bears to defeat the Packers before taking his final breath.
Born and raised in Kenilworth, NJ, Ron was a proud Brearley Bear and lived in his hometown for most of his life before moving to Garwood, NJ a few years ago. He was the devoted husband of Diane Melusky for 35 years and a proud father to Stephanie Marie Melusky and Lauren Ann Melusky Cruz. He adored his grandchildren, Dane Anthony, Lana Jean, Lucy Rae, and another grandchild who is due soon after his birthday. He is also survived by sons-in-law John Ressler and AJ Young, former son-in-law Robert Cruz, his loyal dog Lennon, and three grand-puppies.
Ron worked at APA Transport/Yellow Freight for 25 years before retiring due to his illness. He was a hardworking and dedicated provider who took pride in supporting his family.
A die-hard Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan, Ron had a passion for sports and proudly maintained an impressive bowling average. He loved the beach, attending live concerts and sporting events, classic rock, bike rides, swimming, horse races, cars, and shows about pawning, history, and invention. Ron also had a knack for working with his hands, fixing and building things, and was endlessly curious about the world around him
Above all, he cherished being a father and grandfather, pouring his heart into creating treasured memories with his family. Ron’s family remembers him as fun-loving, selfless, and devoted. His legacy of love and resilience will live on in all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Michael J Fox Parkinson’s Foundation for research.
