Roberta F. (Fendrick) Wegryn

Mrs. Roberta F. Wegryn (nee Fendrick), 81, of Westfield, N.J., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 6, 2020.  Visitation will be onTuesday, March 10th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, N.J.  A Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside, N.J.  She will be buried after Mass at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia, N.J. For more information or to send condolences,visit higginsandbonner.com. 

Born to Dr. and Mrs. Edward Fendrick and raised in West Orange, N.J., Mrs. Wegryn attended Elmira College where,in 1960, she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  That same year, she married Dr. Robert L. Wegryn, her best friend, the love of her life, and staunch bridge partner in a union that celebrated 52 anniversaries at his passing in 2013. After starting a teaching career, Mrs. Wegryn dedicated herself to raising her children and supporting her husband’s work.

In 1993, Mrs. Wegryn received recognition of the Union County Medical Society, where her husband served as president from 1987-1988, as the “Auxilian of the Year”.  Dr. and Mrs. Wegryn’s commitment to service was exemplified in their support for the Center for Hope Hospice where her husband was a founding force and wasmedical director from 1981 to 2009.  Mrs. Wegryn’s efforts on behalf of The Center for Hope patients and their families were recognized in 2005 when she received the “Hospice Team Award” in recognition of her outstanding leadership. 

Together with her husband, Mrs. Wegryn traveled the world.  From Russia to the Panama Canal, their many excursions were shared with friends, our Calderone family,and through Dr. Wegryn’s hundreds of movies and pictures.  Mrs. Wegryn loved vacationing with her children and their families in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region and at the Jersey Shore.  She will be remembered for her devotion to her family- especially to her grandchildren.  

Mrs. Roberta Wegryn was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert L. Wegryn.  Surviving are her son Kevin and his wife, Sheila; daughter, Joye and her husband, George Synodi, and son Mark.  She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Kelly (and husband, Thomas C. Streko, Jr.), Matthew, Bryn, Jordan, Hope, Robert, and Justin.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to The Center for Hope Hospice.  The family wishes to thank Ms. Sharon Silvera, Ms. Musu Samkoh, and Mrs. Maureen Hess for their love and care of Mrs. Wegryn during her final years.
