Robert Scheurer, III Obituary

Robert Xavier Scheurer, III of Cranford New Jersey passed away peacefully on Thursday May 4th at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bob courageously and gracefully battled lung and bone cancer for the past year. Bob was born on April 10,1966 in Bayonne, NJ, He is a proud alumnus of St. Peter's Prepatory School ("Prep") in Jersey City. He was an avid Prep supporter and sports fan his entire life.

Bob, lovingly referred to as “Big Bob” by friends and family, was a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and later received his MBA from Fordham University in NYC. He was a Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity member at Bucknell where he played  football and rugby. Bob’s career was spent in finance in New York where he specialized in financial writing and marketing. Most recently he was a Senior Marketing Content Director Developer at Fiduciary Trust Company International where he specialized in Fixed Income strategies and held numerous other positions since graduation including as VP Marketing at Morgan Stanley, Director level roles at MacKay Shields, Prudential Fixed Income and the prestigious US Federal Reserve Bank.

Bob was a life-long sports enthusiast and dedicated family man.  He was rarely away from his family and spent much of his time supporting his community with the local Knights of Columbus, River Clean-up Committee and his parish, St Michael Church.  Bob was also an enthusiastic volunteer for the Boy Scouts. He was a Scout Master for Pack 103 and Committee Chair of Troop 80. Bob was so proud that all of his sons are Eagle Scouts. Bob was frequently seen on the rugby pitch coaching his boys for the Union Mudturtles when he wasn’t out in the field camping or canoeing in upstate New York with his family.

In his younger years, Bob was heavily involved in the field of play as a student- athlete and in the rugby community.  Bob was recruited by numerous colleges, eventually starting as on offensive lineman at Bucknell where he later played rugby. He was a founder of the Bayonne Bombers Rugby Football Club in 1989 which has since celebrated its 35th anniversary. He leaves behind a long legacy of accomplishment for the rugby community through his play and coaching of youth programs. Off the field, he had a life-long addiction to the NY Mets, through good and bad times, as well as the Miami Dolphins and Irish National Rugby team.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Scheurer (nee Meehan) and his father Robert X. Scheurer, II. He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Fitzsimmons Scheurer, sons (and fellow Prep grads) Robert, John and Michael and brother Joe Scheurer as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces and  nephews who adored him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bob's beloved alma mater, St. Peter's Preparatory School in Jersey City, NJ.
