Richard Edward Basta of Mountainside passed away peacefully at the age of 74 with his wife by his side on December 11, 2021. Richard was born in the Bronx, NY to Edward Sr. and Irene Basta and grew up in Kenilworth, New Jersey. After graduating from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School, Richard went on to earn a Bachelors Degree from Lebanon Valley College, where he excelled in football and wrestling. For his achievements, he was later inducted into the Lebanon Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame. Following honorable and proud service in the United States Marine Corps, he went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from the Rutgers University School of Business.
Richard had a fulfilling and successful career which included serving as Executive Director of the New Jersey Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. Later in his career, he embarked on a career in Finance, becoming a Vice President at Morgan Stanley prior to his retirement.
Richard married Maureen McGevna in 1969, and raised his two sons in Kenilworth and Westfield. He was a man of varied interests, including sports and finance. But his true love was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maureen, his two sons Michael (Jennifer) of Westfield, NJ and Thomas (Anne) of Tampa, FL, and five adoring grandchildren- Ryan, Lucas, Nathaniel, Andrew and Reagan. He is also survived by his sister Joan Agneta of Surfside Beach, SC as well as his large extended family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Edward Basta, Jr.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Disabled American Veterans at dav.org.
