Ralph M. Lanza

October 18, 1928 ~ October 31, 2021 (age 93)

Obituary

Ralph M. Lanza, loving father, grandfather, brother and devoted husband, died Sunday October 31, 2021 at the age of 93.  He passed away peacefully at home with his children at his side. The son of Andrea and Madalena Lanza, Ralph was born on October 18, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and was one of nine children.  Ralph married the love of his life, Isabella “Bella” Frustaci after returning from his service in the Korean War, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.  His artillery guns were affectionately named “Bella 1” and Bella 2”.

Ralph enjoyed playing and watching baseball. He was a stellar left handed pitcher and was invited to try out for the New York Giants professional baseball club. A passionate baseball fan, he enjoyed rooting for his favorite team, the New York Yankees.  During one of their home games, Ralph was honored for his military service on the field at Yankee Stadium.  In addition, Ralph was very spiritual and was devoted to the Catholic faith.

Ralph was a true family man.  Nothing meant more to him than his wife, children and grandchildren. Many cherished memories were made during the “Lanza Bonanza” vacations he shared with his family. His love for them will live on.

Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife Bella.  They were married for 60 years and their life together served as a wonderful example of love, commitment and understanding for his family.

He is survived by his two brothers, Andrew and Peter, his sister Anna; his six children: Kathy, Ralph, Mary, Paul, John, Susan and their spouses: Joseph, Carolyn, Rich, Kathy, Jennifer and Vincent; and his 18 grandchildren.

Ralph will be waked on Thursday, November 4, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Higgins and Bonner in Westfield, NJ.

The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, November 5, at 11:15am at St. Helen's Church in Westfield, NJ.
