Paul Harbaugh, Jr. Obituary

Paul Joseph Harbaugh Jr., age 92, of Mountainside, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2022.

He was born to his parents, Paul Harbaugh Sr., and Aileen Recker Harbaugh in St. Louis, Missouri on September 13th, 1930. Also known as “Stormy”, Paul was the first of five with four adoring sisters. Paul graduated from Saint Louis University. During his undergraduate studies, Paul met “the prettiest girl at Saint Louis University.”, Marlene Meier. They married on January 26, 1952, at Saint John the Baptist in South St. Louis. In 1966 they moved to Westfield, New Jersey where they made their home and raised eight children.   

Paul had an extensive career with Mobil Oil that lasted 37 years. He worked with Alyeska Pipeline Corporation to complete the Alaskan Pipeline. His work also frequently took him to the Middle East. During this time, Paul discovered a passion for traveling. He was eager to share his new experiences with the people he loved and inspired them to pursue life’s adventures.

At age 54, Paul ran is first of 7 “Martini Powered” marathons. None of his heirs have beaten his personal record.

Paul enjoyed cocktails and conversation. Paul and Marlene hosted “Martini Mondays” with local family and Paul looked forward to his lunches with the “ROMEOS” – Retired Old Men Eating Out.

Proud grandparents of 23 grandchildren, GrandPaul and Nana always made a point to be present to share life’s moments. Whether near or far, minor or major, Paul and Marlene joyfully made the trip.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Aileen Harbaugh, daughter, Carol Ann Harbaugh Murphy and sisters, Margaret Harbaugh Farmer and Nancy Harbaugh.

Paul is survived by his wife, Marlene, seven children, Gregory (Audrey) Harbaugh, Mary (Daniel) Kiningham, Mark (Elizabeth) Harbaugh, Ann (Earl) Lauria, Patricia (Richard) Horner, Paul (Barbara) Harbaugh, Kathleen (Charles) Butler, twenty-three grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and sisters Joan Riese and Virginia Sanderson.

Visitation will be held at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home,582 Springfield Ave., Westfield on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 4pm to 7pm. 

Funeral mass to be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 315 1st Street, Westfield on Friday November 11, 2022 at 9;30am
