Lieutenant Patrick J Kennedy,
Union County Sheriff's Office
January 10, 1928 - February 15, 2022
Patrick J Kennedy, 94, of Garwood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Doris Mae Kennedy (née Downey); his brothers, Thomas, Harold, and James; and his daughter, Dorisann Kennedy. He is survived by three children, Denise Holan, Debra Perrotta, and Patrick Kennedy; as well as six grandchildren, and four beautiful great-granddaughters.
Patrick was born on January 10,1928 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to James and Elizabeth Kennedy (née Kavanaugh). He was a veteran of the Korean War, honorably discharged, and then continued his service to his country and community as a policeman in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He transferred to the Union County Sheriff's Office in 1960, and then retired as a Lieutenant in the Sheriff’s Department in 1992, after 32 years of service.
A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, he lived most of his life having never seen them win a Championship. He would always say “This is our year,” despite the odds being historically against them. Pat saw the Red Sox win the World Series four times in his lifetime, all within the last 20 years. He was finally right. 2004 was ‘our year’.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 4pm - 8pm at Higgins & Bonner Funeral Home, on Springfield Avenue in Westfield. The funeral will be on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at 10am at St. Anne’s in Garwood.
