Notis was born on February 3, 1941, to Michael and Antonia Kotsolios in Kournas, Crete; the youngest of four children, cherished brother of Michael, and the late Zampia and Kristallo. He spent his early years in his hometown of Kournas, where he attended elementary school. He moved to Chania for his secondary education and in 1958 he left Crete at the age of 17 and lived with his sister Krystallo in Bayridge, Brooklyn to continue with higher education at The Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, NYU, and Columbia University, where he earned his doctorate degree. His ambition and dedication to learning shaped his future as an electrical engineer in the field of telecommunications where he excelled. In 1976 he married his beloved wife Theresa and together they formed an inseparable loving bond of devotion to each other and their Orthodox faith for 45 years until her passing in 2021.
A man of great kindness, ambition, and faith, Notis was deeply proud of his Greek heritage and maintained a close connection to his roots in Kournas. His religious devotion and strong sense of community were central to his life, and he was admired by all who knew him for his generosity and warmth. He was a faithful steward and Parish Council Member of Kimisis ‘Tis Theotokou in Brooklyn and then at his beloved Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, New Jersey, where he served as an officer and member of the Parish Council, supervised the maintenance of the Church facilities on a daily basis and actively participated in all Church organizations. He also worked tirelessly for the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey to ensure the maintenance of its facilities and participated in its activities. In recognition of his devotion to his Greek Orthodox Faith, he received the Medal of Saint Paul and was invested as an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the office of Ostiarios which means the gatekeeper of the Church.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and integrity. His spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be eternal. He is survived by his brother Michael, sister- in- law Ioanna, nephew Notis and his wife, Evi Korre, and their children. Also surviving are great nephews Michael and George, his sister-in-law Joan King, goddaughters, Kalliope Cothalis and Sophia Cartels, and his godson in Greece, Vaggelis Dramilaris
