Norma Manzano Fernandez 90, of Springfield passed away at home on September 14th 2023. Norma was born in Pinar Del Rio Cuba on January 17th 1933. She immigrated to the United States in 1962. She worked as a seamstress in a factory to help support their family when first coming from Cuba. Once established, she enjoyed traveling throughout this country as well as the world with her friends and family. She understood the joy of being generous with the gifts that God had given her but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She lived many years in both Maplewood and Warren, New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Jose Luis Fernandez. She was also predeceased by her sister Migdalia who passed in 1998. She is survived by her three children; Jose Luis, his wife Anna of Warren NJ; Susana of Maplewood NJ, and Katherine of Greenbrook NJ. Her three grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Matt of Cedar Knolls NJ, Jose Luis III and wife Kristen of Woodridge NJ, and Jillian Norma of Maplewood NJ. Also her four great grandchildren Liliana, Vincent, Matthew, and Jaylen.
She devoted many years to charity work with the Elizabeth Cubanos Lions Club where she also served as president. In lieu of flowers— the family wishes that you donate to the Elizabeth Cubanos Lions Club. Contact Sylvia Fonseca at 908-230-7638.
A wake will be held on Monday, September 18th, at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ from 4-8pm, with a funeral service on Tuesday, September 19th, at at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ at 11:00am.
