Nicholas Bradshaw Obituary

Nicholas Bradshaw, a resident of Mountainside for 65 years, died at home on February 28, 2026. He was 90.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjory Stewart Lockie, his daughter Jennifer Stewart Bradshaw and husband James Lowney, his son Geoffrey Parker Bradshaw and wife Laura Marilyn Koons, his grandchildren: Matthew Hoblitzell and wife Stephanie Horbal, Timothy Hoblitzell, Erica Mae Bradshaw, and Nicholas Parker Bradshaw. Nick felt blessed that his family all lived in New Jersey so that visits together were frequent and a source of joy and comfort. Nick firmly believed “Family is everything”.

Nick was a vital member of the community. He was elected to the Mountainside Borough Council, served on the Board of Managers of Children’s Specialized Hospital, and served for 20 years as president of the Watts Foundation. An active member of the Community Presbyterian Church, he served on Session and the Board of Trustees; he was also a member of several committees of Elizabeth Presbytery. In addition to his long residence in Mountainside, Nick also had roots on Long Beach Island where he spent summers during his childhood. It was there in his teens that he spent many summer days with “the girl next door” who eventually became his wife, and later it was the whole family who continued to enjoy LBI.

The island location afforded Nick the opportunity to enjoy the bay in a series of sailboats throughout the years, from the small Penguin to the last larger Oday with a cuddy, better to accommodate two children and a dog. From sailing in his own boat, Nick transitioned to the professional captains and enjoyed ships that crossed the Atlantic, part of the Pacific, and most of the Caribbean. Cruising was a large and happy part of Nick’s leisure time.

Nick’s interest in the nautical was surpassed only by his passion for aircraft. Spurring his childhood interest in building model airplanes was his tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, part of which he spent at a remote radar site north of the Arctic Circle during the cold war. A student of history and the lessons it offers, Nick built an impressive library of World War II aircraft. He not only read widely and continued to build many of the models, but also visited air bases and museums in the U.K. and the U.S.
Nick graduated from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and did post graduate study at the Stonier School of Banking. His professional work in investments gave him the opportunity to work in many of New York City’s leading banks and to serve their private clients throughout the years.

Nick’s life was filled with love of family and community, an inborn sense of loyalty, fairness always, an understanding of the importance of inclusion, and thoughtful measured responses to any situation. Indeed, a life well lived.

A Memorial Service for Nick will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, 1459 Deer Path, Mountainside, followed by a reception at the church.

Donations in Nick’s memory may be made to the Mountainside Rescue Squad or Community Presbyterian Church.
