Nelson C. Wolf

     Nelson Charles Wolf, age 80, died Saturday morning, February 23, 2019, at Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clark, of congestive heart failure. He was cognizant to the end, frequently face-timing on his iPhone with children and grandchildren. A long-time resident of Westfield where they raised their three children, he and wife Carole moved to Scotch Plains in 2017.

     He was born September 4, 1938 in Elizabeth, N.J., to the late Harry and Molly (Holzberg) Wolf. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth and earned a B.A. degree in history from Ohio State University in 1960. After receiving his J.D. degree from Rutgers University School of Law, he practiced law for over 50 years, at first with his father in Elizabeth, and then as a sole practitioner in Kenilworth. Although semi-retired, he still kept busy with a handful of clients.

     Nelson was a board member and past-president of the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey. An avid sports enthusiast, he rooted for the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the New Jersey Devils. He was also something of a food connoisseur, eagerly awaiting the start of the “Mallomars” season each year. Never afraid to embrace new technology, Nelson was adept at surfing the internet, and welcoming new apps on his smart phone. His sense of humor and unique perspective on life will be missed by all who knew him.

     Nelson met his wife, Carole Barefoot, at Ohio State University, and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Survivors besides his wife include sons Mark and Gregory (Beverly), and daughter Lisa (Brian) Stern; five grandchildren, Andrew, William, Jessica, Samantha, and Parker; a brother David Wolf of California, 3 nieces and a nephew.

     Services will be held at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, New Jersey on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 1pm.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey. https://www.jfscentralnj.org/ . The family will observe Shiva on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 between the hours of 4pm and 9pm at the home of Brian and Lisa Stern 680 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.
