Maureen Elizabeth Kiernan, 62, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ on Friday, November 23, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28th at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, N.J., from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 29th at St. Bartholomew the Apostle R.C. Church in Scotch Plains, NJ at 10 a.m. Her burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.higginsandbonner.com.
Maureen was born in Yonkers, NY to Peter and Marion Kiernan. A graduate of Seton Hall University, School of Nursing, Maureen began her nursing career in the Intensive Care and Medical-Surgical Unit at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ. Maureen went on to become a Team Leader in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. She then moved on to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ where she worked as an Adult Critical Care Educator. Following her career in nursing, Maureen worked at Merck Pharmaceuticals for 30 years, retiring as an Executive Business Manager. Maureen volunteered as an EMT on the Volunteer First Aid Squad in her home town of New Vernon, N.J.
Maureen’s greatest love in life was her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, aunt and cousin. She is survived by her eight siblings Teresa (Patrick) Carr, Peter, Christopher (Jeanmarie), Thomas (Michele), James (Margaret), Joseph, Diane (James) Hoye and Marianthony (Robert) Hough. She was the beloved “Aunt Mo” to Patrick, Mary (Meyn) and Tom Carr, Devin and Sarah Kiernan, Katie, Tim, Collin and Erin Kiernan, Christine and Liz Kiernan, Chris and Catherine Hoye, and Brian and Matt Hough. She was a beloved great-aunt to Kara (Meyn) and Beckett (Carr).
Maureen’s legacy includes bringing her extended family together at many reunions over the years. As a result of her love for her family, we are closer and our families are richer. She will be missed and her memory cherished.
