Mary Shumbris

Mary Shumbris of Mountainside, NJ, passed away at home after a brief illness, March 27, 2022. Mary was born in Plymouth Pa. on November 3, 1919. She was 102 years young.

Mary was the matriarch of the family, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Mary lived life to the fullest and enjoyed her many trips to Wind Creek Casino.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Albin, sister Helen and brothers Nicholas and Stephen. She is survived by her daughter Alice Royston (George) of Westfield, grandchildren Andrew Royston (Alexis) of Mission Viejo, California, Steven Royston (Erin) of Neptune, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.

Wake for Mary will be held on Wednesday March 30, 3PM-7PM. Funeral service at 10AM Thursday March 31 from the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. Followed by at repast at Knights of Columbus, 2400 North Avenue, Scotch Plains.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave. Westfield, NJ.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the Center for Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Rd. Scotch Plains, NJ would be greatly appreciated.

The Family would like to thank the Hospice Center for the compassion and care they gave to Mary.  We would also thank her care giver Nunu for extraordinary attention to her needs.
