Mary Geoghegan Obituary

Mary Ann (Maureen) Geoghegan, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026.

She was a woman of warmth, strength, and unwavering love. Maureen was born in June 1947 to the late John and Ellen McWeeney in Drumkeeran, County Leitrim, Ireland. She emigrated to the United States in 1965. In 1969, she married the love of her life, John, and they built a beautiful home and family in Roselle Park, New Jersey.

Maureen was a proud mother and grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Family, tradition, her Irish heritage, and religion were always at the center of her life. She loved sharing stories of her childhood in Ireland, spending time at the beach, reading books, playing cards, traveling, cheering for the New York Yankees, and her love for animals was second to none.

Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, John; her children, James, Maura (Jessica), Kevin, and Cristin; her adored grandchildren, Riley, Luke, and Finley; her siblings, Bernard, Michael James, and Margaret; and her nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded by her beloved sibling, John. Maureen will also be remembered by many dear friends, both in Ireland and the United States, all of whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8pm at the Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave, Westfield.  Funeral mass will be on Tuesday at 10am at St Joseph the Carpenter RC Church, Roselle, with interment to follow at NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at https://t2t.org/.
