Martin Patrick Doyle of Clark passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Martin P. Doyle and Helen (Casper) Doyle, his sister Mary (Doyle) Mulkeen, and her husband Bill Mulkeen.
Marty grew up in Elizabeth, where after high school graduation in 1963, he joined the Marine Corps and served his country in the Vietnam war until 1967. Upon his return from Vietnam, Marty joined the Elizabeth police force, serving the city with distinction for 30 years until his retirement in 1999. While working as a police officer, Marty earned his bachelor’s degree from Kean College in 1978.
Marty and his wife Kathy enjoyed a vibrant and active social life with their friends from the Roselle Golf Club and spending Sunday afternoon with friends rooting for the Giants. He also relished spending time with his grandchildren and hearing stories of school, sports, and their clubs.
Marty’s quick wit and contagious sense of humor always kept everyone laughing.
Marty is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Healy) Doyle; his son, Mike Doyle and his wife Pam (Vogt) Doyle; his daughter, Mimi (Doyle) Ryan, and her husband, Jack Ryan. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren, Madeline, Luke, Evan, and Jack. Marty is also survived by his brother Jack Doyle and his wife Rosemary Doyle.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Higgins and Boner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave, Westfield, from 4 pm to 8 pm.
A mass of Catholic burial will be offered at St. Agnes Church in Clark at 10 am on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Interment will be at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia on Friday, February 3, 2023.
