Marianne Meagher, 64, passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2021 with her husband by her side. Born in Brooklyn, New York to her parents Thomas P. Martin and Joan Martin, nee Keegan, Marianne grew up in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, and was a member of Our Lady of Angels parish, attending grammar school there before attending Bishop Kearney High School..
A graduate of Brooklyn College, Marianne earned a bachelor’s degree in education and started work as a teacher, first at Columbia Day School in Manhattan, and later St. Mary’s Star of the Sea and P.S. 48 in Brooklyn. While teaching at P.S. 48, Marianne also pursued her Masters Degree in early childhood education from Fordham University at Lincoln Center at night, earning her degree in 1985. She loved her time in the classroom and teaching young children.
In December 1981, she got engaged to her husband, Jack Meagher, and got married in August 1982. She retired from teaching in order to raise a family, giving birth to daughter Tara Joan in 1986, and son John Thomas in 1989. Marianne and Jack moved from Brooklyn to Westfield in 1988, where they have resided ever since.
Marianne will be remembered for her thoughtful, kind, nurturing spirit, her creativity, and her honest opinions. She treasured a summer day at the beach, tending to her garden, a hot cup of tea, and New York City tap water. She adored her family, and having them all over to visit, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her two grandchildren, who absolutely lit up her world.
She was predeceased by her father, Thomas P. Martin; Marianne is survived by her husband Jack, her daughter Tara, Tara’s husband Kyle Nelson, their two children, Ryan & Luke, her son Jack and her mother Joan Martin. She also leaves behind her sister, Joanne, and her three brothers Thomas, Kevin and Brian and their families.
