Maria Isabel Chiong

Maria Isabel Chiong, 79, of Elizabeth, NJ passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2023.

She was born in Havana, Cuba December 25th, 1943 to Cesar and Mercedes Cerviño. She came to the US with her mother to marry the love of her life Ricardo Chiong Jr. in 1967. They made their loving home in Elizabeth where they raised three sons Ricardo III, Alex, and Gabe. They were a close family living in a 2 family home with her mother Mercedes and Ricardo’s parents, Ricardo and Ana along with his sister Carmen.

They created a space where everyone was welcomed. Becoming the meeting place for all of their sons’ friends. Isabel treated every one of them like family. She was  a second mother to many of them. All of them were loved and victims of her relentless wit.

Her second family was her church, Immaculate Conception, where she touched the hearts of countless friends for nearly half a century.

She is reunited with her loving husband, and daughter Neicy who only had 10 short days of life, and dear family and friends who went before her. Isabel is survived by her sons Rick (Barbara), Alex (Nicole)and Gabe (Melissa). Her 6 grandchildren that were her absolute joy: Justin, Miranda, Sebastian, August, Matteo and Julian. As well as her beloved sister-in-law (more like her sister) Carmen Love. Listening to Isabel and Carmen talk was like watching a sitcom. “Remember that guy, in that movie, about that thing…” Together they were like a traveling comedy group.

Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home,  582 Springfield Ave, Westfield, NJ on Tuesday, February 28th, from 4-8 PM.
Funeral Mass
Wednesday, March 1st, 10 AM at  Immaculate Conception Church, 417 Union Ave, Elizabeth, NJ.
