Madeline Szeles

Madeline (Egner) Szeles passed last Friday, June 6th after losing her long battles with various health issues.

Madeline was born on April 22,1939, raised and schooled in Roselle Park, New Jersey. After graduating High School she attended Muhlenberg College in Pa., graduating with a degree in Education. She taught for 5 years in Elizabeth, New Jersey and her hometown of Roselle Park, teaching both first grade and third grade classes at those schools.

After meeting and dating the man (Laszlo) who was the love of her life, they married on August 22, 1964 and became inseparable. From then on they became known to their many friends as madelineandlaszlo.

Madeline kept quite busy both in the home and outside of it.

She was a long time member of the Deutscher Club of Clark and Deutscher Club Ladies Division and could be seen on many occasions working the registers at club festivals.  When not working there, you could find Madeline sitting at one of the picnic tables with some of her many friends.

During the summer you could find Madeline on the deck of the Mountainside Community Pool, conversing, reading  and swapping magazines with her many friends.

Madeline, although soft spoken, was a vocalist, an active member of the Swabishe Singing Group for over 60 years.

She was a long time member of the recently closed Mountainside Foothill Club and active member and former Recording Secretary for many years (until her illness) of The Mountainside Active Retirees.

Madeline was also a long time member of the New Jersey Order Of The Eastern Star.

Besides her husband, Laszlo, Madeline leaves their son Stephen and 3 granddaughters, Amanda, Amy, and Elizabeth.

A Memorial Service will be held at Higgins & Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield on June 21st at 1 PM.
