Lynn Harkabus Fernandez- , 57 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Sept 19th, 2020.
Lynn was born on Oct 31st, 1962 to Thomas and Carol Harkabus. She was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ. She attended St. Mary’s, Our Lady Star of the Sea Grammar School and Holy Family Academy High School. Lynn graduated in 1984 from Douglass College in New Brunswick, NJ with a BA degree in Biology. Her career began at Johnson & Johnson where she was a dedicated employee for 36 years. She was an Associate Director of Logistics & Planning in Global Clinical Operations in Raritan, N.J. Lynn was always admired and respected by her coworkers and peers.
Lynn married her best friend Michael Fernandez in 1993 and for 27 years shared a wonderful, loving and fun marriage together settling in Westfield. They had 2 beautiful children, Alyssa and Justin who were her pride and joy. Lynn was an exceptional, dedicated wife and mother. Their family have made many treasured memories together that will last a lifetime.
Lynn was the oldest sister to Nancy and Ellen who grew up and formed a bond that could never be broken. The “Harkabus girls” were a true sentiment to the way “sisters” should be. They loved and supported each other effortlessly and without a doubt had many fun, unforgettable times together.
Family and friends always came first for Lynn. Her tight “circle” of friends were consistently loyal, supportive and always had a great time together. She welcomed everyone into her family’s home with open arms, a glass of wine, and was always a consummate hostess. She was an outstanding cook & always tried new recipes. She was an avid reader and spent countless summers at the beach with her family and friends. She was a very active participant planning the Sandra Circle Block Party. Lynn initiated Bunco to foster a close knit neighborhood which was always a huge success.
Lynn is predeceased by her mother and father (Thomas and Carol Harkabus), grandparents (Thomas Harold and Adeline Harkabus, Daniel and Mary Hurley).
She is survived by husband Michael, children Alyssa and Justin, sisters Nancy Liebig and Ellen Rowe. Sister in laws, Julie Holzer and Lisa Geng, brother in laws, Werner Liebig, Ken Rowe, Vaugn Holzer, ( predeceased Glenn Geng). Her nieces and nephews, Amanda and Ethan Liebig, Evan and Ryan Rowe, Tyler and Chelsea Holzer and Dakota and Tanner Geng.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, Sept 22nd from 4-8 pm at Higgins & Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home. 582 Springfield Ave, Westfield, N.J.
A semi- private Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday Sept 23rd at Holy Trinity Church 506 Westfield Ave Westfield, N.J.
Due to Covid restrictions, capacity will be limited.
Cemetery to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Carolyn Fernandez name to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
