Loretta Garo Obituary

Retired Edison Intermediate School Secretary, Beloved Mother, Wife, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt & Friend.

Loretta Manos Garo, age 97 passed away on January 25th, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family. The youngest of three sisters Marette & Estelle, Loretta was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 3rd, 1922 to William and Celia Manos. She graduated high school in Brooklyn in 1939 and went on to receive a degree from business school. Loretta worked as an administrative assistant to a major insurance firm in Manhattan and at Bond’s Department store on Fifth ave before moving to Clark, NJ in 1956 with husband Anastis (Ernie) of 62 years and son William.

After moving to Clark with her family, Loretta began working at Edison Intermediate School in Westfield as an administrative assistant in the library and guidance office. She loved coming to work each day and interacting with students and other faculty, she retired in 1994 after 34 years of work at Edison. She was a founding member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield and played an active role in its development in the community. She is survived by son William, daughter-in-law Helen, grandchildren Michael and Alexis, nieces Elaine, Alexis, Cecile, Lexine, and nephews Jaime and Matthew. Loretta will be remembered for her warm and friendly spirit, her contagious happiness and energy, and the love and care she devoted to family, friends, and the community.

Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hills Road, Westfield, NJ on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 at 10:15 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
