Lawrence Maher Obituary

Lawrence P. Maher, a devoted husband, loving father, and accomplished Attorney, passed away on the morning of September 9, 2020.  Larry was born on January 19, 1948. He was raised by wonderful parents, Roger and Margaret Maher and was imbued with virtues that he shared with his wife, Dianne, and his three children, Brian, Patrick, and Meghan.  He always brightened up a room with his smile, vibrancy, and kind-hearted nature.

Larry was a thoughtful and inquisitive man which he attributed to his Jesuit education at St. Benedict's High School in Newark and Fairfield University in Connecticut. After graduating from Fairfield, Larry attended law school at Seton Hall University School of Law. He embarked on a successful legal career following his graduation in 1973 and achieved many honors during his years of practice. Larry was rated as an AV attorney, an accolade awarded to attorneys who are considered to be preeminent in their area of practice, and was selected as a "Lawyer of the Year" twice.  He was also recognized regularly by Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers in New Jersey, and he was listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He lectured and published articles in his specialty of law over many years. Larry finished his distinguished legal career at Greenbaum, Rowe,  Smith & Davis in Iselin, New Jersey.

A great athlete, Larry enjoyed competing as a quarterback in football games with his friends and his sons, and later in life he suited up for basketball games for his firm's team. He loved attending his kids' games and taught them life lessons about the value of winning and losing.

Larry was a mentor and always took the time to speak with anybody looking for advice, whether at home or during his professional life. He was an incredible provider and loyal Yankees and Giants fan. He cherished his vacations in Nantucket and Newport and was thrilled to share them with his family.  He especially loved conversations by the fireplace with his lovely wife.

Larry was predeceased by his wife, Dianne, to whom he was married for 45 years, and leaves behind his children, Brian and his wife Erica, Patrick and his wife Emilie, his daughter, Meghan, his grandson Finn and his new granddaughter Anna.
