Kimberly Herbert Obituary

Kimberly A. Herbert, 66, of Union, NJ peacefully of passed away into the Lord’s hands on May 27, 2025. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 15, 1959 to Donald and Joan Silvey. She attended primary school in her hometown of Elizabeth and she graduated from Battin High School of Elizabeth in 1977.

She worked as a NJ Transit conductor for thirty-three years before retiring in 2019.

She was predeceased by her father Donald N. Silvey and her brother Donald J. Silvey.

She is survived by her husband Carl B. Herbert, her sons Sean J. Cooper, Peter H. Herbert and Matthew D. Herbert, her mother Joan C. Noonan, her sisters Jane Massucci, Karen Silvey and Kathy Noonan as well as her grandchildren, Maxie Addison Cooper and Dexter Donald Cooper. She is also survived by many friends and extended family whose hearts she profoundly touched.

Kim was a devout Catholic attending daily mass, regularly volunteering at the Newark Friary and was always a shining example of how a life of faith, service and prayer can draw you ever closer to God, your fellow man and the loved ones you hold so dear.

She and Carl were a strong foundation for her Union neighborhood. Their love, compassion and welcoming household served as a refuge for all of her children’s neighborhood friends, who over the years became family. The life she led, the family she made and the legacy she left behind is beyond what words can describe She is truly loved and is truly missed.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s RC Church, 541 Washington Ave., Kenilworth. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ

In lieu of flowers, Donations in Kim’s memory may be made to Community of Franciscan Friars, P.O. Box 404, South Orange, NJ 07079.
