Husband, Father, Grandpa, Humanitarian, of Cranford and Long Beach Island, 73
Kevin John Mahoney of Cranford, NJ, died due to AML Leukemia on May 21, 2024, surrounded by
his loving family.
He was born in Queens to Margaret and John Mahoney. He attended Teresa of Avila grammar school
in Ozone Park and John Loughlin High School. He moved to Cranford in 1983.
He spent 39 years with the “Bell” system and ended his career in 2007 as Director of Community
Affairs for Verizon on Staten Island. After retiring, he devoted himself to a life of service to others:
Elizabeth Coalition for the Homeless, St. Joseph's Social Services, Family Promise of Union County.
He is a Past Grand Knight of K of C Cranford Council 6226, past member of Roselle Catholic School
Board, past vice chairperson of Noble Maritime Museum. He was K of C Irishman of the Year in
2018; recognized by the Elizabeth Coalition in 2022 for volunteerism, and, perhaps, his proudest
award: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award in 2018.
He met his wife, Nancy, at Nardis Tavern on Long Beach Island and they just celebrated their 40 th
anniversary in October of 2023. Their home in Beach Haven Gardens was always full of family and
friends, and, of course, their grandchildren.
His sense of humor was one of a kind and it brought joy and laughter to many over the years. His love
for his fellow man was his greatest gift – never a bad word for anyone – always finding the best in
everyone, a true Christian.
His children, Rob, Caitlin and Conor have always been a great sense of pride for him. Over the last 12
years, he was blessed with 8 granddaugthers and a grandson (Kevin) who filled his days with unending
joy and laughter.
He is survived by the love of his life, Nancy, and his children: Rob (Elisa); Caitlin (Kelly); Conor
(Teresa), his grandchildren, his loving sisters: Kathy Frazer (Jim), Eileen Alexander (Jack), Meg
McKay (Dick), sisters-in-law: Fran, Gayle (Roger) and Gerri, many nieces, nephews, and countless
friends. He is predeceased by his loving parents, John and Peggy Mahoney.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the wake on Wednesday, May 29, 4 – 7 p.m. from
Higgins & Bonner, Westfield, NJ. A mass of Christian burial will take place Thursday, May 30, 10
a.m. from St. Michael's Church, Cranford, NJ. Interment is at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.
