June S. Fischer, age 94, of Clark, NJ, passed away peacefuly on March 27, 2026, at Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
She was born on December 18, 1931, in Newark, NJ, to. She attended Rutger’s University, Newark and later worked as a bookkeeper for many years. On May 22, 1955, she married the love of her life, Harold Fischer.
June was a woman of many passions. She was a terrific cook and cooking for her family, friends, and neighbors brought her joy. She was an avid reader with excellent book recommendations.
June was known as the “Grand Dame” of the Democratic Party in New Jersey. She was a 32 year member of the NJ Democratic Committee, a 28 year member of the Democratic National Committee and beginning in 1972 was a delegate to 12 Democratic National Conventions. She was also a candidate for both Congress and Union County Clerk, and spent 24 years as a member of the Union County Board of Elections, where she was committed to ensuring that election days were fair, honest and accessible.
Later in her life she became very active at the JCC in Scotch Plains, serving on the board for one four year term, and was in the middle of serving her second term. Her greatest source of pride was her four grandchildren. Family and friends wil always remember her for her sense of loyalty, her fashion flare, and her kindness. She is survived by her children, Lori Feigenbaum and Nancy Shanahan and son-in-law Larry Feigenbaum; her four grandchildren, Rachel, Amanda, Evan, and Corey; and two great-grandchildren, Noa and Beau. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold, and siblings Bernard, Edith and Eugene.
A celebration of June’s life will be held on Monday April 6, 2026, at 11:30am at Sun Tavern 600 Westfield Avenue W., Roselle Park . In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the JCC of Scotch Plains, Adult Enrichment Program in her memory.
