Joseph Paul Zavodny

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Paul “JP” Zavodny at 34
years old in Columbia, MD. JP was born on February 25, 1991 in Summit, NJ to Paul
Joseph Zavodny and Susan Marie (Lademan) Zavodny. He attended Holy Trinity
Interparochial School and graduated from the Delbarton School in 2009. In 2013 he
earned a dual bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering at Johns
Hopkins University, and he was honored with the William H. Huggins Award for
Outstanding Service and Academic Achievement. After graduating with a Master’s
Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2014,
he worked at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, MD. He was an active
member of the Boy Scouts of America Westfield Troop 73 and obtained the rank of
Eagle Scout. He was a cherished member and leader in his local and online
communities. He was a gifted musician and played electric guitar with the Washington
Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra. He enjoyed skiing with his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents and his sister Stefanie Zavodny Jackson. Viewing will be
held on March 28, 2025 from 3-7pm at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral
Home in Westfield, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on March 29, 2025 at 11am at Our
Lady of Lourdes Church in Mountainside, NJ.
