Joseph Attanasi Obituary

Joseph "Pipp"  Attanasi, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on
Wednesday, October 3, 2018.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, Oct. 7,
from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home,
582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. The funeral service will held on Monday,
Oct. 8 at 10:00am at Evangel Church, 1251 Terrill Rd., Scotch Plains.
Born in Newark N.J., Joe moved to Union, N.J. at the age of 6. After getting
married, he lived in Kenilworth, N.J. before moving to Cranford, N.J., were he
resided for the last 52 years.


Joe was a 1949 graduate of Union High School where he played baseball and
basketball. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War on the aircraft
carrier USS Saipan.


Joe was a self-employed businessman his entire life. He and his brother Dominic
were the founders/owners of D & J Trucking in Newark, N.J. He also was the
owner of Rahway Truck Sales, Rahway, N.J. He owned several multi-family rental
properties which he was still actively managing at the time of his death.
Joe attended Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, N.J. for 75 years. While there, he
taught Sunday School and was a founding member of the Evangel Bowling League
(1963), where he bowled for 52 years. He was also one of the original members
of the Evangel softball team.


Joe was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. His love and
devotion for them was unmatched. He rarely, if ever, missed watching a game.
He had to be near a television whenever they were playing.


Joe was predeceased by his parents, Emil & Mary, his brother Dominic and sister
Dolores. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sandra (Gernandt)
Attanasi; devoted children, Joseph, Jr. and his wife Cindy, Faith Leon, Mark and his
wife Christine; grandchildren Julian, Jordan, Alexis, Brooklyn and Joey; great
grandchildren Alianna and Jace; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
