Joseph Richard Gannon was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 4, 1944 to the late Mildred Towell and William Gannon. He attended Saint Joseph’s Catholic School and was a 1962 graduate of Dickinson High School.
Joe became a friend of Bill W. in 1985 when he entered recovery for alcoholism. As a result of his spiritual awakening, he carried his message of experience, strength and hope to others in all his affairs. He became an addictions counselor and aided in the recovery of many others suffering from the disease. Joe helped others help themselves with empathy and love until the end of his life.
Joe was an elder of Mount Bethel Baptist Church where he shared in and testified to the Love of Jesus Christ. He often stated that he didn’t have a religion, but a relationship with Christ. He shared his gratitude to God on a daily basis and was a prayer warrior for others.
Joe will be missed by all who were blessed to know him and his love will live on through the lives of those he touched. We are grateful for the miracle that was him.
Predeceased by his parents and older brother, William, Joe is survived by his beautiful bride of 45 years Linda (Winters) of Murray Hill, NJ, his son, Joseph, a New Jerseyan, his daughter Sherri Lewis (Aaron) of Bath, NC, his grandson Joseph Gannon Jr., and his granddaughter, Delaney Lewis.
