Jorge Guillermo Martin, 73, of Kenilworth, passed away peacefully to his eternal rest at home surrounded by his family on December 26, 2024.
Born on November 17, 1951, in Matanzas, Cuba to George and Gladys Martin, Jorge’s life was a testament to resilience and determination. At the age of 14, he made the difficult choice to escape his home and seek refuge in the United States, paving the way for his family to eventually join him. This courage shaped the man he became and inspired all who knew him.
He worked proudly as a Quality Control Technician at Westinghouse in Hillside until a merger with Siemens Corporation in Kenilworth where he shifted careers to an Electrical Technician. His dedication and expertise earned him the respect of colleagues and friends.
Jorge married the love of his life Mary on October 27, 1985, with whom he shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. He was the proud father of three children—George, Caitlin, and Brian—and a loving Papi to Dax and Josie.
Jorge was a lifelong Elks Member in Mountainside, NJ. He found joy in fixing things (in 20 minutes), exploring the endless possibilities of his computer, taking countless photos (against everyone’s will), and most importantly, cherishing time with his family. He looked forward to his yearly family vacations to LBI where he would ride around the island and enjoy the ocean views. He loved spending time in Wildwood, Ocean City, and Myrtle Beach with all his J.A.C.K. 21 Club friends who became family.
Jorge will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, deep love for his family, and an unwavering curiosity about the world around him. His legacy of perseverance and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who ever encountered him.
Jorge is pre-deceased by his parents, George and Gladys Martin. He is survived by his wife, Mary Martin (nee Abbott). He leaves behind three children, George Martin, Caitlin (Michael) Dukielski, and Brian (Megan) Martin, as well as two grandchildren, Dax Martin and Josephine Dukielski. Jorge is also survived by his sister, Irela Morris (Steve) and brother, Marcos Martin (Myra) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home on Monday, December 30, 2024 from 4-8 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at St. Theresa’s RC Church in Kenilworth, NJ at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Saint Gertrude’s Cemetery and Mausoleum in Colonia, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society.
