Morristown, NJ. John Svolos, of Morristown, NJ passed away on September 20, 2022 at Morristown Medical Center. Born in Amsterdam NY in 1934, John attended Northwestern University from 1952-56 and served in the Armed Forces, stationed in Germany. After his service in the Army, he moved to Chicago, IL and worked for The New York Life Insurance Company. He became an insurance underwriter there, and later moved to Evanston, IL. While in Evanston he was an active member of the United States Junior Chamber, also known as the “Jaycees”. In 1967 he moved to East Orange, NJ and in 1970 he settled in Morristown, NJ. He continued his career with New York Life until 1985 and then finished out his working life at the Internal Revenue Service. He traveled extensively worldwide, and tried to do it by train whenever possible. But it was his annual trip to Barbados that he always looked forward to. He was an active parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, NJ and a loyal member of Literacy Volunteers Of Morris County. He is survived by his nephew, J.J. Sedelmaier, of New York NY. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday. October 12, 2022 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers John would have appreciated donations be made in his name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Westfield NJ.
