John Robinson Malcolm, Jr., 77, a resident of Garwood, Seaside Park, NJ and Key West, FL passed away peacefully at the shore, surrounded by his loving family on July 21·2023. John was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ and later moved to Garwood. John was a devoted husband to Linda Malcolm (Badge) for 54 years. A father to sons John and wife Eunice, Richard and wife Tricia, Brian and daughters Jill Malcolm-Llera and husband Juan and Janet DiPaolo. Grandfather to eight, Jake, Tyler, Sophia, Hunter, Brandon, Ryan, Gianna and Skye. He is predeceased by his mother Mary, father John and brother James.
John exemplified an unwavering dedication to life and all whom he touched. As an army veteran, John displayed bravery to protect our country. In 1965, he became a member of Ironworkers Local 480, as an Apprentice, Journeyman, Foreman and Superintendent. Moving up through the ranks, John became a member of the Executive Board. He held the positions of President, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and later became Business Manager of Local 480. Simultaneously, he was Vice President of the District Council of Northern NJ Ironworkers and Trustee of Funds. He was an advisor of Unity Bank, an Executive Board member of the NJ State Building and Constructions Trades and President of the Union County Building Trades. John also actively participated in many local boards and committees such as Workforce Investment Board, Labor Advisory Board and Alliance Board of Directors. He was a member of NJ Council of Colleges as well as the External Relations Committee of Kean University and Board of Governors of Union College.
John enjoyed spending time in Seaside Park and Key West. He enjoyed boating on the Ingrid Lynn, crabbing and making memories with family and friends. He also had a love for classic cars, especially his 442. He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering strength, resilience, loyalty and the lasting impact he had on those fortunate enough to have known him. His courage and tenacity serve as an inspiration to us all. His legacy will live on through the memories he leaves behind and the love he shared with his family.
