John Joseph Huss, Jr.

October 23, 1963 ~ August 19, 2023 (age 59) 59 Years Old

Obituary

John Joseph Huss Jr., aged 59, of Mountainside, NJ, passed away on August 19,2023 surrounded by his loving family. John was born on October 23,1963 to John J Huss Sr. and Beverly (nee Meyer) predeceased by his father.

John is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Francesca (nee Burns), and their three wonderful children John J. III, Ava and Patrick.

John was the eldest of six children. He leaves behind his sister, Deborah Kurus and husband Nicholas, brothers Michael and wife Dolores, Joseph and wife Joanne, Christopher and wife Jamie and was predeceased by his brother Thomas. John is survived by his dear Aunt Marie, many nieces, nephews, close cousins and countless friends he welcomed into his life with open arms.

John was a force to be reckoned with. Everyone knew when Johnnie arrived. His smile could light up a room. That smile will truly be missed by his family. As his family reflects on the days ahead, they will hold dear the memory of that radiant smile that brought so much joy.

John attended Christ the King grammar school in Hillside, NJ. He chose St. Benedict Prep for high school in Newark where he played soccer and wrestled. John attended St. John’s University in Minnesota for two years and then went on to finish with a degree in Sociology from Kean University.

John had a great work ethic from an early age. He started working for the Star Ledger as a newspaper carrier and worked his way up to Circulation Communication Manager for 28 years before returning to his roots at St Benedict’s for the past 12 years as Senior Director of Advancement. His dedication and willingness to go above and beyond what was asked of him earned him the affectionate title “the cleaner.” He cleaned up every mess or fixed any situation that needed fixing.

John’s commitment to community and service extended to his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, where he achieved the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 99 Hillside. He continued his support by becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 177 Mountainside, passionately guiding his sons towards their own Eagle Scout honors. In addition, he supported Mountainside youth as a soccer and softball coach.

The family has entrusted Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home with the arrangements. Wake is scheduled for Thursday August 24 from 4pm-8pm at 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 25 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church,  300 Central Avenue, Mountainside, NJ.
