Joan Sullivan Obituary

Joan M. Glackin Sullivan passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 20th.  Joan was born and raised in Elizabeth and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1952. Joan married her best friend, Daniel T. Sullivan, in 1955. They settled in Roselle for 43 years, where they raised their family, then moved to Toms River for 12 years, before moving back to Union County. Joan worked at Goodman’s on Elmora Avenue in Elizabeth for 30 years.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, along with their six children: Dana and Joseph Hutchinson of Cranford, Daniel and Debbie Sullivan of Roselle, Colleen and Neil Koch of Union, Erin and Jim Sweeney of Cranford, Shaun and Katrina Sullivan of Toms River, and Kelly and Pete Coates of Cranford.

Known lovingly as “Grammy”, she is also survived by her 17 grandchildren. James and Saranne, Kevin, Michael, Brian, Katie and Joey, Danny, Bridget and Sean, Kerry, Ryan, Brittany, Marykate, Meaghan, Peter, Shaun, Patrick, Kelleen, and Erin. Grammy was recently blessed with three great grandchildren: James, Elsie, and Hudson.

Nothing meant more to Grammy and Poppy then the time they spent with family. Whether it was decorating for Christmas, preparing a Thanksgiving feast, a vacation in the Poconos, wearing green for Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations or time spent at her much loved Lavallette home, it was always about being with her family. Joan was the foundation of the Sullivan Family and an inspiration to us all. She will be forever loved and missed.
