Jeffrey Mark Tomko, 69, of Kenilworth, New Jersey, passed away on November 20, 2025. Born February 5, 1956, and raised in Mountainside, Jeff — known to family as “Poppy” — was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and faithful friend.
A 1974 graduate of Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, Jeff built a lifelong career in construction as a skilled bricklayer and superintendent. He was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers Union and took great pride in his craft, mentoring others and ensuring every job was done right.
Jeff’s greatest joy was his family and he cherished family gatherings. He cared for his wife, Lori, throughout the years and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. A lifelong sports fan, Jeff was a season-ticket holder for the New York Giants and an enthusiastic supporter of the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and skiing, and was always ready to lend a hand to neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lori (Esposito) Tomko; daughter and son‑in‑law Tayler and Jose Matos; grandchildren Jackson Jeffrey and Stella Rae; sister and brother‑in‑law Karen and Herb Heilmann; brother and sister‑in‑law Michael and Mary Tomko; and stepmother Maria. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Anne Tomko, and his brother Gary Tomko.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield, NJ. Funeral services will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
