Jane Annis passed away March 4 at the age of eighty-six after several years of physical decline. Born Eleanor Jane Hamill, in Huntington West Virginia, she was known to all her friends and loved ones as Jane. Shortly after graduating from Marshall University, she married her high-school sweetheart. Within a few years they’d had two baby boys and moved to Westfield, New Jersey. In addition to keeping house and raising two children, Jane was active in the Junior League and attended the New York School of design, after which she started an interior decorating business from her home. A few years later, she opened an office on Elmer Street in Westfield where, under the name Ideas for Interiors, she did business for some two decades.
In mid-life Jane moved with her family from Westfield to Mountainside, where she then lived for over forty two years. Her interests included water coloring and playing tournament bridge, at which she attained the rank of Life Master.
Jane was predeceased by her husband of fifty seven years, Arthur Annis and is survived by her two sons, Charles and his wife Elizabeth and sons Henry and Julius, and Arthur Annis Jr. and his wife Marjorie and sons Aaron and Aden.
A memorial service is planned for two o’clock in the afternoon, March 19, at the Westfield Presbyterian Church, of which Jane was a long-time member.
