Jamie Mahoney Obituary

Jamie Marie Mahoney, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 24th surrounded by family after a short and brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a longtime resident of Springfield having lived there for 22 years. Jamie was a teacher at Elizabeth Public Schools for over 40 years. She was a graduate of Battin High School in Elizabeth and of Kean University. She received additional post graduate degrees from Nova Southeastern University, Fielding University and Marygrove College.

After her retirement, she went back to work at Berkeley Heights Public Schools as a teacher’s aid and continued her true passion for teaching and mentoring children. In her free time Jamie loved to garden, exercise, and travel with her family. She was excellent at cooking and baking and enjoyed opportunities to entertain guests. She was a lifelong lover of animals and treasured her cats Rocky and Apollo and her recently passed dog Blackjack. She had an outgoing and energetic personality and was known to make friends everywhere she went. Jamie was a loving friend to many. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and daughter. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Marie and Charles Morey.

Jamie is survived by her husband of 39 years Richard Alan and her three children Kaylin, Jessica and Richard Connor. She is also survived by her siblings Patricia, Charles, and Cynthia as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held for Jamie at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, NJ on Tuesday October 29th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A mass will be held for Jamie at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Union, on Wednesday October 30th at 10:30. Notes of condolence and tributes may be posted at higginsandbonner.com.
