It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Thomas Murphy, who died peacefully in hospice on September 3, 2025, at the age of 82.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, his three children, Kristine, Liz, and Brian, his daughter in-law, Sarah, his grandsons, Jackson, Declan, and Rhys, as well as his sister Betty.
Jim was born on August 31, 1943, the third of four children born to Edward and Gertrude (Gartland) Murphy. After growing up in Rockville Centre, NY, with his two older siblings, Patricia and Edward, and younger sister Elizabeth, he graduated from Belmont Abbey college, where he met his wife, Barbara Ayers, who he married in 1968.
Jim went on to earn his M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1978, and after working in various corporate roles, for Herman Miller, and other concerns, in 1992, Jim and Barbara established, owned and operated the Copies Now/Sir Speedy printing business in Westfield, NJ, which eventually was sold in 2021.
Jim was especially known for his humor, and his love for his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home located at 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ.
