James Doherty Obituary

James P. Doherty of Westfield, NJ passed away on June 10, 2021, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, and moved to Westfield in 2003.

Jim attended St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth, NJ, afterward, entering the U.S Marine Corp where he served for seven years. He was a member of the Elizabeth Police Department for 21 years, and finished his career in law enforcement with the Union County Prosecutor's Office, retiring as a Detective in 1989. In 1989 he joined Johnson & Johnson as an Executive Protection Specialist, retiring in 2006.

Jim enjoyed his retirement traveling with his wife, spending time with his four children and 10 grandchildren, and working in his yard. His grandchildren were his special joy. Pops was the “go-to” babysitter and regular at games and school events. His grandchildren knew going to Pops’ house meant a very good chance of ice cream for breakfast.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary (Quinlan) of 54 years, his son James Jr. and wife Ursula, his daughter Sheila Jackson and husband Michael, his son Joseph and wife MaryBeth and his daughter Eileen Martin and husband Kevin as well as his 10 grandchildren, Molly Jackson, James Doherty III, Liam Jackson, Nicole Doherty, Kaitlyn Jackson, Erin Doherty, Sean Doherty, Quinlan Doherty, Eileen Jackson and Jack Doherty.

As Pops D always said - God Bless
