Jacqueline “Jackie” Aiello Babernitsh, beloved wife of Frank Babernitsh, who predeceased her in 2009, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Jackie is predeceased by her parents Vincenzo and Antonette Aiello, brother Salvatore Aiello and sister-in-law Eleanor; stepmother Rose Aiello and stepsisters Adeline “Lee” Moscatiello and Lillian “Lynn” Carr.
She is survived by her son James Babernitsh, daughter-in-law Rita Dodd Babernitsh, their son Stephen Babernitsh and his wife Diane; daughter Jean Babernitsh Goydish and her sons Michael Goydish II and Ryan Goydish.
Jackie was born and raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York, where she lived with her family among many uncles, aunts, and cousins. She was a self-described bobby soxer who loved Big Band music and Frank Sinatra concerts. After high school, Jackie worked as a secretary on Wall Street where she was often teased for her passion for the New York Yankees, especially Joe DiMaggio.
After her beloved mother’s passing, Jackie moved with her father to Union, New Jersey where she lived with her stepmother Rose and stepsisters Lee and Lynn. She met and married Frank Babernitsh, also from Union. In 1961, they bought a house in Mountainside where they raised Jim and Jean. One of their greatest joys was to babysit their three grandsons – Steve, Mike and Ryan.
Jackie was a very kind, generous and caring person who devoted herself to her family. She was a stay-at-home mom, and a wonderful cook and homemaker. She also volunteered her time at Children’s Specialized Hospital. Once a week she would have her family over for dinner to enjoy her delicious homemade tomato sauce and meatballs. Jackie loved reading, movies, travel, music and singing. Jackie enjoyed life, was loved by all and will be dearly missed by her family.
